Selena
She is a singer, designer and a music innovator. She was at once traditional and modern, a Mexican American who united the two worlds together in a distinct manner. She was a rising star whose untimely passing splintered it. And as is common when a brilliant, genial young performer passes away too early people mourn the possibilities that she had yet to reach. Fans have worked harder throughout the years to preserve her legacy. The tragic death of Selena by a gunman caused an outpouring of emotion in Latino communities similar with the reaction to the deaths of Elvis Presley as well as John Lennon's. The singer was extremely popular throughout Latino communities across North America her music crossed lines of cultural difference to affect people young as well as old. Selena was a sexy and flamboyant stage performer who was sometimes called her as the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was a strong role model as she participated actively in antidrug and AIDS campaigns.
